WS毛姆（William Somerset Maugham），1874—1965，英國著名小說家，劇作家，散文家。曾先後就讀於坎特伯雷的國王學校和德國海德堡大學，後到倫敦聖托馬斯醫院學醫，並取得外科醫師資格。
他的首部長篇小說《蘭貝斯的麗莎》於1897年發表。1915年，他的傑作《人性的枷鎖》問世，1919年《月亮與六便士》的出版確立了他作為長篇小說家的地位。他的其他著作有長篇小說《刀鋒》、《面紗》，旅行札記《在中國屏風上》，及各種散文、短篇小說集等。1903—1933年期間，他創作了近30部劇本，深受觀眾歡迎。
毛姆被公認為20世紀在全世界範圍內流行最廣、最受歡迎的英國作家之一，被譽為“最會講故事的作家”。他的小說機智、幽默，常在譏諷中潛藏對人性的憐憫與同情。1952年，牛津大學授予他名譽博士學位。1954年，英王授予他“榮譽侍從”的稱號。
